Writing Guidelines

Writing a perfect post is easy and should be fun. These writing guidelines will help you create well written articles for Kadamba Foundation. In this way we maintain quality and you make the life of our editor(s) much easier! If your article does not follow the guidelines it will need editing and might even be deleted! So follow along to get yourself started…

Know who you write for!

When you write for Kadamba Foundation you have to remember who you are writing for. We represent Kadamba Kanana Swami and this website is viewed worldwide. Some of our readers are not familiar with ISKCON or Hare Krishna philosophy. Always keep this in mind when writing. Using words like Gurudeva and Guru maharaja might be appropriate for certain occasions, but on Kadamba Foundation we don’t use them. The same goes for words like “guru”, “jaya”, “prasad”, “fried”, and other ISKCON lingo. You can use Sanskrit words, of course, but explain them also.

Secondly we address Kadamba Kanana Swami as Kadamba Kanana Swami. Not with HH, or Maharaja, Gurudeva, His Grace or other titles. We remain, of course, very respectful towards Maharaja, but here we use his normal name.

Grammar & Spelling

English can be quite complicated, specially for non-native writers. So we are bound to make mistakes. Our editor(s) will help you with spelling and grammer and correct accordingly. Make sure you check your article for any errors before you sent it in for reviewing.

Content, Spelling & Grammar Do’s and Don’ts

Not everything ‘flies’ on this website. We have to write according to some rules. And here are some of them.

  • Write fun posts.
  • Post pictures of nice programs and festivals
  • Post video that you made on youtube and include them on the blog
  • Post MP3 classes or music.. (if you need help with this, then ask)
  • Transcribe classes and put them online.
  • Write a travel report about maharaja’s his travels, but be sure to focus on his teachings. Here is a good example of a travel report.
  • When posting a youtube video, slideshow or other flash videos  always include an extra link to the original content. This blog is also read on Facebook and mobile devices. These devices might not display the content correctly.
  • Always translate Sanskrit terms and explain them.
  • Do not post initiation, abhisek or Vyasapuja videos and images on youtube. No washing feet, worship or other sensitive material.
  • Do not display Kadamba Kanana Swami as a guru
  • Do not use words like : guru maharaja, maharaja, prabhu, mataji without explaining them.
    • address people by their names. So use “Kadamba Kanana Swami”
    • Use men and ladies instead of prabhu/mataji
    • ( i know that lots of articles have the word maharaja in it. We have to improve here!)
  • Do not use ISKCON slang or other weird words

Basically use common sense and don’t forget who your audience is. And we you are not sure if your posts are politically correct then you can inquire.
